Recipe: Chocolate Pudding and Cherry Brownie Trifle

This Chocolate Pudding Trifle is a quick and easy dessert…. you can make all or part of it from scratch … so it’s entirely up to you how much time and effort you want to put into it….

This is always a hit with kids… and adults love it too…. the combination of flavors is just terrific.

TIPS

I personally prefer to make the whole thing from scratch so I can control the ingredients… but either way this is one delicious dessert…. perfect for a special dinner … like a Valentine’s Day Celebration…

You can make brownies from scratch…. or use the boxed variety…. the same goes for the chocolate pudding …. use my recipe for chocolate pudding… or make it from a boxed mix… you can use the instant variety… although… I think the cooked kind has a better chocolate flavor… and finally you can use a frozen whipped topping such as Cool Whip…. or make my recipe for Chantilly Cream….

You can make all the parts ahead and assemble it when you plan to serve it…

Making the parts of this trifle from scratch really doesn’t take long and really tastes so much better… and after all…. Valentine’s Day is special.

If using my recipes… you should be able to get 4-6 servings, depending on the size glass you use…. If you’re making this for two…. leftovers are always wonderful…

This fat in this recipe can also be scaled down…. use fat free milk for the pudding and instead of making the Chantilly Cream with heavy cream… use a non-fat whipped topping for the whipped cream.

Assemble this as individual Trifles… or make one big one… it looks outstanding … the colors are so vibrant with the cherry pie filling… a great dessert for a pot luck supper….

If I know I’ll have leftovers….I make individual Trifles… so this way I can make a variety of desserts …. On another night instead of using cherry pie filling … I make a Trifle with caramel … see my recipe for Caramel Brownie Toffee Trifle.

This is a terrific dessert idea…. I hope you try it.

Maraschino cherries

To Assemble the Dessert:

If Making Individual Trifles:

Cut the brownies into 1 inch squares… break the square up a bit to fit in the bottom of a trifle glass or other dessert glass.

Scoop a generous amount of cherry pie filling on the brownie.

Scoop a generous amount of chocolate pudding on the pie filling.

Put a dollop of whipped cream over the pudding.

Top off with a maraschino cherry.

If Making a Large Trifle:

Follow the steps above but don’t top off with a maraschino cherry yet.

Make sure you spread a layer of whipped cream instead of just a dollop.

Put another layer of cherry pie filling on top of the brownies.

Put another layer of chocolate pudding on top of the cherry pie filling.

Put another layer of whipped cream on top of the chocolate pudding.

What a fun dessert and I agree that its better to make from scratch (if you have the time). Excellent post.
