How to Make a Cake Mix Taste Like a Bakery Cake

Did you know many bakeries use cake mixes?  Really... they do... they just add ingredients or adjust how they use it.. a few simple things...
Bakery cakes tend to be denser and not as "fluffy".... so how do they get them like that when they use cake mixes?
This simple "how to" may shock you at how simple it is.... truly simple...
1)  Add an extra egg than is called for in the box instructions.
2) Use milk instead of water.
3) Use melted butter instead of oil.... and double the amount called for.  I know it seems like a lot.. I was hesitant.. but nothing ventured nothing gained... glad I did it!
I tried it and have been very satisfied with the results...
I used a Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix ... made the changes and baked as directed.  The batter will be thicker... and the baking time was in the top part of the baking time range listed on the box... just test using a toothpick in the center ... if it comes out clean.. it's done!

  2. Hi Lexy...

Yes, you are.. for example... my Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix... says to add 1 cup water.. so you add 1 cup milk instead... it says to add 1/2 cup vegetable oil.. instead you add 1 cup melted butter (2 sticks)... it says to add 3 eggs... instead you add 4 eggs..

    Hope that helps!

  3. Thanks for your answer. Can't wait to try this....I love the heavier texture that is created with this method. If you receive this more than once it's because I'm not able to get the numbers and letters right I guess.

  5. Going to try it. I like the taste of cake mixes but they are, like you said, too fluffy.

Did you get in the PBO?

  8. sorry about the removal of Florence's comment... it was an accident... I was trying to delete a duplicate of a comment from another post and the system clocked when I hit delete again it snagged this one....

Florence had commented that unfortunately the recipe did not come out as she felt it should....

  9. Response to Florence...

Sorry it did not come out for you.... I have used this recipe over and over and over.. and so have friends .... it comes out more dense and not as light and flakly as when you only follow boxed mixes directions.... I use whole milk.. maybe that is the difference...

In any case.. sorry it didn't come out as you wanted.
