How to Use Unflavored Gelatin

Tip of the Day:

Soften gelatin by placing the gelatin in ¼ cup cold water for 5 minutes.
Microwave the gelatin on high for 30 to 75 seconds or until it dissolves to a completely clear liquid. If there is any cloudiness, the gelatin has not completely dissolved and the mixture will not set. (Start with 30 seconds and continue until cloudiness has disappeared).

DO NOT boil unflavored gelatin or it will become stringy and unusable.

You are the first person I see that has mentioned stringy gelatin. I just tried to make fluffy whipped cream frosting and my gelatin got stringy when I put it in the cold whipped cream mixture; maybe I cooked it too long.

Really??? I'm surprised... I have over cooked gelatin before and it became stringy...

Not sure what went wrong with your unflavored gelatin... but I would highly recommend trying again... it really is a terrific ingredient in many recipes...

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.. come again!
